Classical Golf Adventures Kapalua's Pineapple Plantation 3,200 Acres of Maui Golf by Martha Hollis |

With one whack of his razor sharp machete Wesley Nahara, supervisor of the Maui Land and Pineapple Company, Ltd. eliminated the pineapples armor. Its heady aroma created an insatiable desire to taste this pure golden, sun-kissed fruit. Very carefully I picked up a chunk from the proffered machete. While Nahara watched, the gold went into my mouth. My mouth burst forth into a huge grin of satisfaction. "Perfect," I mumbled. "Perfect," I said with more conviction as I licked every bit of precious juice from my fingers. This was so unlike the green fruit that vainly sat on my kitchen counter with the unrealistic hope of ripening to this glory. Fields are always the premier venue for eating. And in this field overlooking the Pacific Ocean from Maui’s West Coast, a rainbow’s inverted smile reminded me of sliced pineapple curves.
