We met for dinner in Ludwig, the fine dining room, for foie gras with
apples, sea bass carpaccio, freshly baked whole grain bread studded with
hazelnuts, Colorado Antelope in a crispy crust, etc with a decadent chocolate
dessert and an artists palate with four different sorbets. The wine selection
was superb as was the after dinner cognac with coffee.
How delighted he was at not
having to suffer through what he had heard about the low-calorie, minimal
spa foods.
The next day’s golf outing
finished earlier than expected, so I suggested that he try a facial explaining
that HIS esthetician said "they are incredible for eradicating the
ravages of the elements on the skin and being outside for golf so frequently
he certainly could use that treatment."
We scheduled the treatment. Afterwards with his face glowing
from the exfoliation, moisturizing with special botanicals and vitamin C,
and his hands baby soft from the electric glove treatment with lots of oils,
he looked and felt like a million. But the smile on his face from the total
relaxation from the neck, scalp and arm massage was one of those outward
signs of inward contentment.
We popped into the outdoor Jacuzzi and had a cold drink. Then

we pulled on our jeans and headed to the Bully Ranch, the
casual restaurant. The waiterbrought us several local drafts on tap. Ordering
up ½ pound lightly seasoned and grilled burgers, they were delivered on
a bun made in the resort’s bakery, topped with sautéed mushrooms and Swiss
cheese and bacon and sided with giant, crispy fries. For dessert he ordered
a snickers chocolate maniacally caloric thing that the waiter suggested
he bring with ice cream as he felt the whipped cream was just too wimpy.
I would not be surprised if our next golf vacation happens to be at a resort
with a spa. Men know that spas are for manly men.
